High Seas Fleet doing one of three 180o turn away maneuvers
from the British 31 May 1916

Eine der berühmten Gefechtskehrtwendungen der deutschen Hochseeflotte aus der Luft bei einem Manöver fotografiert.  Admiral Scheer führte dieses extrem schwierige Manöver in der Schlacht am Skagerrak insgesamt dreimal erfolgreich durch. Das spricht für den hohen Ausbildungsstand der deutschen Marine.  Erst wenn das letzte Schiff mit der Wendung begonnen hat, kann das vor ihm liegende drehen und so fort bis zum Führungsschiff. Nur so konnten Zusammenstöße vermieden werden.

Translation: Photograph of one of the famous engagement turns of the German High Seas fleet taken from the air showing the maneuver.  Admiral Scheer altogether three times successfully executed this extremely difficult maneuver in the battle at the Skagerrak. That speaks for the high state of training of the German navy. Only if the last ship begins the turn, and so on up to the lead ship, which is situated before it, can the turn be made. Only so could collisions be avoided.
