I have recently acquired a copy of the Declaration of Intent for naturalization by a Jakob Scherr from the Milwaukee County Historical Society. The dates are right for this to be our ancestor, so this is a probable, but at this point not a definite. The Curator of Research Collections of the MCHS wrote: "We have found a Declaration of Intent for a Jacob Scherr that is very close in time frame and information that you have provided....Since we only found a Declaration/First papers, apparently he did not finish the process to become a citizen in Milwaukee County."
