The following was received from Richard Breitzmann, Secretary and past President of McKinley Lodge, in response to questions I asked.

Your grandfather was a 32nd degree Mason.
The 32nd degree is conferred by a Masonic body called the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. It is a part of Masonry which a man can join after he receives the first 3 degrees. I am a current officer in the Milwaukee Scottish Rite.  In the United States, a man usually gets all 29 degrees (4th thru 32nd) in a class which covers one or 2 weekends.  In Europe it could take several years for a man to progress through the levels of Scottish Rite to the 32nd
degree.

Your Grandfather received the 4th through 32nd degrees in a class which took place from 4/10/1945 through 4/14/1945.  According to the records of the Scottish Rite, He lived in Wauwatosa, WI at that time and he was a specialty clerk at Northwest Mutual Life Insurance Company.

Lodges in Wisconsin (which confer the first 3 degrees) are chartered as F&AM or Free and Accepted Masons.  Some other states have their lodges chartered as AF&AM or Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.  The difference between the 2 types of charters pertains to when and how each State's Grand Lodge got its charter from the Grand Lodge of England.

York Rite is another group of related Masonic bodies consisting of Royal Arch Chapter, Council, and Commandry. York rite degrees do not have numbers as the Scottish Rite does, but there are several degrees conferred in each of the York rite bodies.

I do not know if your grandfather was in any of the York Rite organizations and it may be harder for me to trace whether he was because I am not a member of those organizations and do not have any close contacts with them.
