This is an individual that did not have
any permanent place of residence, he roamed across the country, travelled and discovered many regions, rivers and lakes of Canada and
the U.S. He lived by hunting and trading trinkets, like glass beads
and pieces of mirrors against fur pelts, with the Indians and selling
these to the Hudson Bay Company. I would compare him to the
Canadian
version of Davy Crocket.
Additional Information:
The Hudson Bay Company was, by royal decree and for several decades
the sole Company
permitted to purchase and export fur pelts.
This is the oldest company in existence in Canada. Its still active
and operate several stores (The Baie and La Baie) across Canada. They
are known around the world, specially by tourists, for their wool
blanket. The pattern on their blankets has not changed since the early
times of the colony.
