Gideon Sikes

      Gideon Sikes was the youngest son of Posthumous and Rachel Sikes. his father died when he was about three years old and his mother married Jonathan Hopkins when he was about six.

      Gideon enlisted in the Connecticut Militia for Suffield about December 1, 1775 for a 13 month term. According to his pension application he served in Huntington's Company under Capt Hyde and then under Captain Ebenezer Huntington.

      After the war he returned to Suffield and had a farm of 36 acres. His first wife died in 1794, and he remarried twice.
