Charles Edward Pugsley

    Charles Edward Pugsley was born in Greenwich, CT in May of 1862, the second child (although he is the oldest who lived) of William and Phoebe Pugsley. He worked with aluminum most of his life, mostly as a polisher. It also seems he polished metal furniture such as brass beds.

    He married Jennie Louise Rodgers, in May of 1880. They lived in Greenwich, then Auburn, NY, then Tarrytown, NY and finally after 1904 they moved to New Kensington, PA. There he worked for Alcoa until about 1920 when they moved to New Jersey.

    It is said that Charles contracted tuberculosis sometime in the 1890?s and had to go West for a better climate. He left Jennie and the children in the East. The children supposedly had to all go out and find jobs to help out with the living expenses. Edward talked about working in the screw factory at the age of nine, which would put this at about 1893-1894.

    He died in Edgewater, NJ in 1925. He is buried in the Brookside Cemetery in Edgewater.
