Richard Pugsley was born, November 11, 1795, in Westchester Co, NY. He is possibly the son of James Pugsley and his wife Mary. The first hard evidence I have for him is a 1820 census for Westchester Co, that has him living in Rye, NY, and again in the 1830 Census. In 1827 he purchased land in Westchester County for the first recorded time, but he sold it the next year and purchased land in Greenwich, CT.

In the 1850 Census he is living in Greenwich and is listed as a farmer. He sold this farm in 1854-1855 and moved back to Harrison, NY and purchased land. He died in 1856, leaving a heavily mortgaged estate & no will. It took nearly 25 years to finally settle the entire estate.

His wife?s name is Delia M. but I have yet to uncover her maiden name. Richard and Delia are buried in the Quaker Meeting House Burial Ground in Harrison, NY. I have not been able to find out if they were Quakers, but am working on that line of inquiry.
