      Romantic Holidays

      Rose

With the Holidays approaching or any busy time of year, it is really hard to find time to be alone together. You almost have to MAKE the time, set it aside and allow nothing and no one to take it away. This time must be protected like you would protect a newborn baby, or it will die on the borning.

First off, you make the time. This can be an afternoon a morning, an evening, a weekend, a weekday, an hour or a block of hours. Both of you must agree on the time, now be a little flexable here. If the time is her special Christmas Party she's been looking forward to all year, then it is not a good time, or his bowling night is not a good time. Clear something that neither of you want to attend anyway and make your excuses. Hire a babysitter, or enlist the services of an indulgent Aunt, Uncle, Grandmother or close friend. Hopefully the children can spend the night there, but definitly take what you can get.

Now to plan the time. Below are some ideas for fun and romantic times during the holidays, or anytime.

Spring holidays are here, and what about that walk in the woods. Soon the spring flowers will be peeping out of the undercover and they don't last very long. What a joy it is to discover them together. What does it matter if the yard doesn't get cleaned up until next weekend. Go now for you might not have next weekend to do it!!

Go Christmas shopping together. If you enjoy the hussle and bustle of the season, what better way to enjoy it than together. Stop in somewhere for cups of hot chocolate or Gourmet coffee and enjoy the conversation and the atmosphere.

Go ice skating or sledding. Remember the times when we were kids and all the fun we had. It's twice as much fun in the arms of the one you love. A fire, gingerbread cookies and a thermos filled with hot apple cider, hot chocolate or coffee, top off the day.

A tree triming party. I know those of you with children want them to help with this activity. Then have a party trimming the house. I always wondered why my parents Decorated the tree when us kids were not there, well, I found that I enjoy decorating the tree far more when we make it into a party and there is just the two of us. I prepare a "buffet" supper, something warming to drink, candle light, soft Holiday music and voila, romance and fun together.

We have friends who love to go snowmobiling. They think it is the most romantic, exciting thing to do. I can imagine the darkness, the sky sprinkled with stars, the quiet, and the two of you. If you aren't into snowmobiling, try a walk on a December evening, imagine the snow if you don't have any, and hear it crunch underfoot. Imagine the cold refreshing air as it fills your lungs, if you don't have the real thing available. Then hold your lovers hand and feel the warmth of their love surround you.

Plan a Holiday concert. Collect your favorite Holiday music. There is some wonderful music out there. Everything from Handel's "Messiah" to Sandy Patti to Elvis. Everyone has a Christmas Album. Get your favorites and plan some dessert, or a full candlelight dinner, get comfortable in the arms of your lover and enjoy the music.

Plan a special dinner event for a holiday. I planned a dinner for the two of us for Valentine's day and kept an online journal so I could keep track of everything. It includes everything from the decorations, the menu, the recipes to what I wore and how I fixed my hair. Check out Valentine Journal for some ideas.
