When Christ was born in Bethlehem
In the days of Herod - King
There were no shining trees of light
Or Golden bells to ring
There was to table laid with feast
No Carols softly sung
There were no ribbons, bows or lights
Or stockings to be hung
No fire burned in home or hearth
To spread it's cheerful glow
No shoppers filled the local mall
Nor children playing in the snow
No family gathered round Him
No greeting cards were found
There was no Christmas party there
Nor friends to come around.
With cows and sheep to see His birth
Twas in a manger stall
And Mary Sang his Lullaby
and Joseph watched ov'r all
The Angels sang the story
To the Shepherds On the Hill
They came to seek the Child born
The Prophets to fulfill
The gifts were from the Wise Men
Who followed yonder star
And we can find that Christ Child
For He seeks us near and far.
So set aside the trappings
The tree, the lights, the toys
And seek a Savior born this day
And find His peace and joy.
