The Real Guns of Agent Under Fire
Welcome to the third edition of "The Real Gaming Guns" series. In this edition the real guns in Agent Under Fire will be thoroughly covered. Bear in mind, I am a small arms specialist, so the information given on this page will be more accurate than from that of other gaming sites. All text, except for rate of fire and weight statistics, was thought-up and written by Deadeye006. Calypso P-750

Real Name - M960
Manufacturer(s) - Calico
Complete Name - Calico M960
Origin - United States
Classification - Pistol (Machine)
Feed - 50 or 100 round helical magazine
Caliber - 9mm
Rate of Fire - 750 RPM
Fire Mode(s) - Single Shot, Automatic
Operation - Blowback
Trigger Mechanism - N/A
Weight - 2.64 pounds (1.2 Kilos)
Comments:
The Calico M960 is obviously a very unique design. In some ways it is similar to the FN P90, which is featured later in this article. One: It is a unique design. Two: The compact magazine can hold an astounding number of rounds, and Three: The fired casings are ejected straight downwards, not out from the side like most other firearms. The magazine is rather complex, and needs to be maintained well in order for it to give continuous good results. After loading the magazine with the desired number of cartridges, it must be "wound" to enable it to feed them into the firing chamber. The 960 featured in the above photo has an accessory rail that scopes or lasersights can be fitted to.

Real Name - P90
Manufacturer(s) - Fabrique Nationale
Complete Name - FN P90 Origin - Belgium
Classification - Sub-machine Gun
Feed - 50-round removable magazine
Caliber - 5.7 x 28mm
Rate of Fire - Cyclic, 900 RPM
Fire Mode(s) - Semi-automatic, Automatic
Operation - Blowback
Trigger Mechanism - N/A
Weight - 5.58 pounds (2.54 Kilos) Unloaded
Comments
The Fabrique Nationale (FN) P90 is a very unique sub-machine gun in many aspects. It has a bullpup design, which means all or most of the action happens behind the trigger. The 50-round transparent magazine is placed horizontally along the top of the firearm. The cartridges face 90 degrees away from the weapon's barrel. A small disk-like "turntable" rotates the cartridge into alignment with the barrel just before it enters the chamber. The bullet is much lighter than a 9mm bullet yet is just as effective, if not more. It is used mainly by small military units such as vehicle and tank crews and sometimes in counter-terrorist actions. A special silencer is made for this weapon. The fire mode selector (to go from safe to semi, etc.) is located under the trigger. This weapon has a built-in laser-sight system. The magazine is simply dropped/slid into place along the top of the weapon. The bullets cannot penetrate most hard surfaces, but are capable of penetrating thinner body armor and vehicles. Many movies and most videogames that portray this weapon are wrong with the fact that they show the ejected casings being ejected from the side. They are simply ejected straight downwards.

Complete Name - HK MP5A3
Origin - Germany

Weight - 5.6 Pounds (2.5 Kilos)
Comments:
Electronic Arts describes this weapon as follows:
Its low firepower, poor accuracy, and small clip size make it effective only at close range.
Don't videogaming companies read-up on the weapons they are featuring? The HK MP5 is the exact opposite of that description. In truth, the MP5 is one of the most accurate and reliable SMG's in the world. It also has one of the greatest effective ranges out of all other SMG's, which is up to 200 yards. The MP5 can be fitted with a wide range of accessories. The foregrip can be replaced with different foregrips, and various scopes can be mounted.

Ingalls Type 20

Real Name - MAC-10
Manufacturer(s) - Cobray; Jersey Arms; Many others
Complete Name - Ingram MAC-10
Origin - United States
Classification - Sub-machine Gun
Feed - 30 or 32 round magazine
Caliber - .45in
Rate of Fire - 1100 RPM
Fire Mode(s) - Semi-auto, Automatic

Comments:
When an American named Gordon Ingram designed the MAC-10 SMG, he designed one of the most revolutionary compact SMG's in the world. It is very compact, comfortable to hold and fire, cheap to manufacture, lightweight, and has a very high rate of fire. It's drawbacks are not-that-great accuracy and short effective range. Nontheless, this is a very reliable and effective weapon. MAC stands for the company that Gordon Ingram worked for, Military Armament Company. The threaded barrel allows for the use of a sound suppressor.

Windsor FSU-4

Complete Name - Colt M4 Carbine w/M203 GL
Origin - United States
Classification - Rifle/Grenade Launcher
Feed - M4: 20 or 30 round magazine; M203: Single Shot

Comments:
The M4 Carbine is simply a shortened M16A2 with full automatic fire in place of the 3-round burst and an adjustable stock. The M203 40mm grenade launcher attachment mounts below the rifle's forearm. The M203 is a single shot weapon. To load it you slide the barrel forward, insert the grenade or other specialized ammo, pull back the barrel, and it's ready to fire. The M4 has all of the characteristics of the M16A2 except for the previously stated differences. About 4/5 of the M4's parts are interchangable with those of the M16A2.

Real Name - AK47
Manufacturer(s) - Too Many to List
Complete Name - Avtomat Kalashnikova '47
Origin - Russia
Classification - Rifle
Feed - 30 round magazine
Caliber - .30in
Rate of Fire - 600 RPM
Fire Mode(s) - Semi-auto, Automatic
Operation - Gas
Trigger Mechanism - N/A
Weight - 9.5 Pounds (4.3 Kilos)
Comments:
AK stands for Avtomavt (Automatic) Kalashnikova. Designed by Mikhail Kalashinkov, the AK was accepted as Russia's first standard-issue assault rifle in 1949. The design is so revolutionary and rugged that copies (or parts) of this rifle are produced in more than 18 other countries, including China, Yugoslavia, and even the United States (semi-auto only versions in the U.S.). The AK-47's 7,62mm bullet provides good stopping power at long ranges. However, newer versions of the AK such as the AK-74 fire a smaller 5.45mm diameter bullet, which doesn't achieve as much range, but has great stopping power because the bullet tumbles and defragmentates as it enters the enemy. There are an estimated 30 million AK-47's throughout the world. Note in the picture above the muzzle brake fitted on to the end of the barrel, which helps to reduce muzzle climb. If you watch the world news commonly you'll notice that 90% of the Afghani's over in Afghanistan tote around either AK-47's or AK-74's. Others carry RPK's or PKM's, which are AK-derived machine guns.

Myer-Westlicher UGW

Real Name - AUG
Manufacturer(s) - Steyr
Complete Name - Steyr-Mannlicher AUG
Origin - Austria
Classification - Rifle
Feed - 30 or 42 round magazine
Caliber - .223
Rate of Fire - 650 RPM
Fire Mode(s) - Semi-auto, Automatic
Operation - Gas
Trigger Mechanism -
Weight - 8.5 Pounds (3.85 Kilos)
Comments:
The AUG looked like some sort of alien pulse rifle when it was introduced in the 1970's by Austria. The design is unique and innovative. It is of bullpup design and consisted of mosty polymers. The integral 1.5X scope also acts as a carrying handle. The strange magazines have a "waffle" texture on them, and transparent magazines are also made for it. The vertical foregrip can fold-up and out of the way when not in use. The foregrip can be used as a handle when changing a hot barrel as well. The AUG is used by a few countries for military or security purposes.

Real Name - G11
Manufacturer(s) - Heckler and Koch
Complete Name - HK G11
Origin - Germany
Classification - Rifle
Feed - 45 round magazine
Caliber - 4.73mm
Rate of Fire - 600, 2000
Fire Mode(s) - Semi-auto, Automatic, 3R-burst
Operation - N/A
Trigger Mechanism -
Weight - 8 Pounds (3.6 Kilos)
Comments:
Talk about strange and unique! This German rifle is perhaps the most unqiue automatic rifle in the world. It's unique for a number of reasons: It has a bullpup design, it fires caseless ammunition, and it is extremely accurate when fired in bursts. The tiny 4.73mm (that's slightly wider than a .177 caliber airgun pellet!) bullets travel at very high velocities. The caseless ammunition also gives the rifle a very high rate of fire due to the fact that the ejection stage is eliminated. The caseless ammo also allows the recoil to occur after three bullets are fired, meaning that the third bullet hits the same place as the first bullet! However, when firing in full auto, the rate of fire is only around 600 RPM, compared to 2000 RPM when firing in three-round burst mode. Two extra magazines can be stored on the top of the rifle.

Real Name - Anaconda
Manufacturer(s) - Colt Firearms Company
Complete Name - Colt Anaconda
Origin - United States
Classification - Pistol
Feed - 6 round integral revolving cylinder
Caliber - .44 Magnum
Rate of Fire - Single
Fire Mode(s) - Single Shot
Operation - Revolving Cylinder
Trigger Mechanism - Double Action
Weight - (Estimate!) 2.4 Pounds (1.2 Kilos)
Comments:
The Colt Anaconda is a strong and reliable double-action revolver. The .44 Magnum cartridges create a disaster when the bullet hits human flesh. Double action revolvers have very stiff trigger pulls, but have the advantage of being fired like a single action pistol if the user insists. Firing the pistol like single-action requires the user to cock the hammer before each shot, but reduces the amount of trigger pull needed to fire.

Real Name - Desert Eagle
Manufacturer(s) - IMI; Magnum Research
Complete Name - Desert Eagle
Origin - United States
Classification - Pistol
Feed - 7, 8, or 9 round magazine
Caliber - .357 Mag., .44 Mag., or .50 AE
Rate of Fire - Semi-auto
Fire Mode(s) - Semi-auto
Operation - Gas
Trigger Mechanism - Double
Weight - 3.8 Pounds (1.7 Kilos)
Comments:
Most people throughout the world have seen Desert Eagles in movies, and most people also think that this pistol was developed in Israel, which is wrong. It was developed in the 1980's by an American company called Magnum Research. It is unique in that it is an auto-loading pistol that fires magnum cartridges: the same ammunition that most revolvers use. It was a good challenge for Magnum Research to design a sturdy autoloading pistol that would be able to take the abuse of such powerful rounds. The big and heavy slide absorbs much of the recoil. The Desert Eagle comes in three main calibers, although attempts were made to make DE's that could use less common magnum rounds. The three main calibers are .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, and .50 Action Express. The .357 version can hold up to nine rounds, the .44 can hold eight, and the .50 can hold up to seven.

Now, why people think the Desert Eagle's country of origin is Israel? Because Israel is a major user of the pistol, and they are also licensed to manufacture it. One of their standard-issue pistols was once the Desert Eagle, but now a pistol that resembles a DE in looks but fires standard pistol ammo is more commonly used, often called the "baby eagle". The Desert Eagle is powerful, reliable, and, well, big. It measures almost 10.5 inches in length overall.

Real Name - P99
Manufacturer(s) - Walther

Caliber - 9x19mm
Rate of Fire - Semi-auto
Fire Mode(s) - Semi-auto
Operation - Recoil
Trigger Mechanism - N/A
Weight - 1.6 Pounds (.7 Kilos)
Comments:
To me, the Walther P99 is one of the coolest looking pistols on earth. Who can resist the smooth, round curves and soft, comforting grips? It's no wonder why James Bond upgraded to this piece of beauty. Anyway, the P99 is designated as a pistol to be mainly used by Police forces, particularly German. A military version with an olive drab slide is also produced. I believe this pistol was also devloped for concealment in mind. It has no bulky hammer or large levers, so it can be easily slipped into and out of a holster or pocket. It is also extremely light, so it won't sag or feel uncomfortable if worn in some type of body holster all day. The P99 has an interesting feature which alows the user to change the grip size for smaller hands or bigger hands, so this pistol can comfortably be used by both little old ladies and big strong policemen. The pistol came about in the 1990's, and also comes in .40 caliber S&W, but the .40 uses 12-round magazines.

Nothing too special, just an accurate Swiss bolt-action sniper rifle. The magazine holds up to five rounds. This rifle is a great sniping weapon and also a great sporting rifle. Often used by Police forces.

Frinesi Special 12

Real Name - SPAS-12
Manufacturer(s) - Franchi
Complete Name - Franchi SPAS-12
Origin - Italy
Classification - Shotgun
Feed - 8 round integral tubular magazine
Gauge - 12
Rate of Fire - Single
Fire Mode(s) - Semi-automatic, Pump
Operation - Gas or Pump
Trigger Mechanism - N/A
Weight - 9.7 Pounds (4.5 Kilos)
Comments:
Those Italians are something. They make great food and great guns! The Franchi SPAS-12 is one of my favorite shotguns. Unfortunately, it is strictly a military and police shotgun, so it is unavailable to civilians in many countries. This shotgun can be used semi-automatically or by pumping. Many people wonder why the pump feature is even put in if it can fire semi-automatically, but it is very important to have a pump operation in a police or military shotgun. The pump action allows a much wider variety of ammunition to be used, both lethal and non-lethal. It takes a powerful shotgun cartridge to be able to allow a shotgun to operate semi-automatically, and there are not many non-lethal rounds or specialized rounds that are powerful enough to operate the loading mechanisim, which is why the pump mode is so important. The SPAS-12 has a fold-over stock with a large hook on the end which can be used as a carrying handle or aid in storage.
