| The picture on the left (taken in 2004) shows the house in Portobello Road, North Kensington, where my maternal grandmother Rosa was born in 1874. Needless,to say, it has long since been divided into bedsits. The picture on the right shows the row of shops nearby. The family would have known these as their local butchers, bakers, grocers, greengrocers etc, but now they are wine bars, mobile phone shops, sexy lingerie shops and the like. |
