| DATE: 02 November 2005 NAME: Paul Coughtrey COUNTRY: Australia MESSAGE 35: I was searching on the Net for the name Coughtrey and came across your site. I am living in Brisbane now, having emigrated from the UK 7 years ago. I was born in London in 1965. My dad is Keith John Coughtrey born in Kingson-Upon- Thames (UK), 21/11/1933. I don't know much about my Grandad except that he would have been born in Kingston (I am pretty sure) in about 1915 and was known as Jack Coughtrey, although I don't think he was christened Jack. He married Clara Kingerley and they ran a grocery shop called Tudor Stores in Kingston from about 1936. That’s all I know except I think as a kid there was talk of some of Grandad's relative coming from Peterborough. I know there is or was a lady whose maiden name was Coughtrey living in Perth (Aus) in 1990 (she emmigrated from South London in mid 1970's). I only know this as I was a London policeman and got very badly injured in a riot in 1990 which made all the UK national press. I was named in the articles and she wrote to me but we lost contact. Does any of that ring any bells with anyone? I would love to know more about the name. Thanks for any help you may be able to give. (NO REPLIES YET) RETURN TO TOP |

I too traveled around Barnet and London finding jazz, mostly alone. I too was drinking in all the pubs with a girl called Joan who worked at Maws. I too lived in Brighton at the same time as you. I too started a jazz band at the Black Bull and so on...... |

DATE: 27 June 2005 NAME: Nick Heath COUNTRY: England MESSAGE 31: I've enjoyed reading your memoirs, especially those about Brighton. I knew a lot of the Brighton beats and hippies and was a founder of the Brighton Anarchist group. I knew characters like Dublin the tramp well, as I frequented the pubs they used- the Norfolk, the King and Queen, the Basketmakers Arms. And of course I was on those 2 big Vietnam demos you write about. Wonder what happened to Dublin? (NO REPLIES YET) RETURN TO TOP |

DATE: 16 January 2005 NAME: Bob Coughtrey COUNTRY: England MESSAGE 30: Hello Vic, I've just logged on to you page while trying to find out more on "my side of the family tree". I am in possession of a brief history & branch of the tree by a James coughtrey, who was apparently a very distant cousin, I've always been interested in furthering investigations but until now have been unable. My grandfather was an employee of Harrods around the time of WW1, perhaps we can help each other by exchanging information. (NO REPLIES YET) RETURN TO TOP |
