| This photo was probably taken in 1955 when I was 12. The setting is the back garden of 4 Connaught Road, but I can't think who could have taken the picture unless it was my cousin Tony Ansett, who very occasionally accompanied his father Frank on one of his monthly visits. He had a much better camera than our old box camera. My mother Grace was by now 45, my father Frank was 51 and my grandmother Rosa 81. I don't remember my father having an eye problem at the time - I think he must have blinked as the shutter was opened. My marvellous scowl seems to illustrate to perfection my chapters dealing with this period. |
