Update # 39. August 17, 2001

TIDINGS FROM THOSE WHO LEFT AROUND THE 1988's

Last month we got a welcome bunch of alumni from the 1988 era. They flocked to the web site and created a sudden surge in the visitor counter. Among them were Pang Tak Chiu Peter, Poon Ming Him Dennis, Fung Yeuk Ki Julia, Yu Siu Wai Thomas, Wong Wang Chi Roger, Fong Wai Shan Ila. They graduated from [ F5 1988 ]; some subsequently stayed on for F6 or F7. Also visiting us were Ho Tat Kei Alfred of [ F6 1987 ] and Fung Yeuk Bing Grace of [ F5 1983 ]

  • Yu Siu Wai Thomas [ F5 1988 ] emailed me and inquired about Li Kwok Hay Edward and Lo Yin Ping Terry. They are a few years more senior than Thomas at CCSC, but were Thomas' churchmates. He wrote:

Hi, Ching Sir, Thanks for forwarding Edward's email to me. Well, I have spread out the URL of the website to all my contacts from CCSC and hopefully they will sign up at the guestbook of your website. Attached please find my recent photo. Talk to you later. Thomas Yu (F5 1988)

  • Heard that Pang Tak Chiu Peter [ F5 1988 ], a.k.a. "Peter Pan" in class, have a baby recently. Congratulations !!!

  • Fung Yeuk Bing Grace [ F5 1983 ] wrote: "I have been with the KPMG for 5 years as assistant to a partner who is in charge of Corporate Finance. It is nice to work here. I am married with no child, and my husband and I went to Canada a few years back but did not like it there." She also told us about the whereabouts of her baby sister, Fung Yeuk Ki Julia.

  • Fung Yeuk Ki Julia [ F5 1988 ] currently resides in Milpitas in the Bay Area, and is working in the Silicon Valley as an accountant and will stay there. "You might not have taught her in the past but may be you can remember her as a small girl with beautiful big eyes who sang very well," wrote her sister. But I do remember both sisters.

    Ching Sir,
It is VERY nice to hear from you. Since I graduated from CCSC (F5) in 1988, I had moved a few times and each time I moved I lost some friends. But life has its way and I could never have guessed an email from Pang Tak Chiu would lead me to finding you. You were a very nice teacher to me. I enjoyed being your student then and am certainly delighted to hearing from you now. I believe you are the one that peeked my interest in Photography.

Attached are some photos to, hopefully, remind you what I looked like. In 1990, I left HK for San Jose where I study at De Anza College for two years. In 1992, I transferred to GeorgiaTech and graduated with BSCS in 1994. I have been working as a computer programmer for Dell Computer Corp. ever since. I am currently developing Dell.com.

I got married in 1995 and live in Austin, Texas with my wife and three dogs. We are expecting a baby boy (our first) at the end of October.

My little brother lives in San Jose and I am sure I will be in the Bay Area sometime next year. Maybe I can come and see you.

    Regards,
    Roger Wong Wang Chi

Roger also mentioned about the tragic loss of his dear classmate both at CCSC and at De Anza College in California, Shih Shun Kei Paul [ F6 1989 ] who died in a car accident in San Mateo in 1997.

[ Photos sent by Roger are now posted in Family Album Page 75-77.]

  • Supply Wong, got married and has taken up her husband's last name. She is now known as Karen Chan.

  • Fong Wai Shan Ila who graduated in [ F7 1990 ], was actually in the same F5 1988 class as Roger, Peter Pan, etc. She writes:

    Hi Felix,
I am from the class of 1990 Form 7. My Chinese name is Fong Wai Shan. I am the classmate of Peter Pang Tak Chiu and Dennis Poon Ming Him. Indeed, we still keep in good contact with a bunch of CCSC classmates in Hong Kong.

"Peter Pan" informed me of this web site and I am really impressed by the work you have done for our CCSC alumni. Mrs Yuen used to be my Geography teacher in Form 5 and I respect her a lot.

I'll send you photos of our gatherings (we just had one last weekend) [ Please do, and Thanks, Ila !!! ]. I hope we can find more CCSC old friends on the net.

    Best regards,
    Ila

I graduated from CCSC in 1987 and went to the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Yes, I was one of those "rebels" who skipped the A-level exam. I studied in the arts class.

When I was in CCSC, people liked to reverse my Chinese name and called me "Kei-Tat".

After my graduation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, I went to Indiana University in the U.S. to study public administration. I got my Master degree in 1993 and finished my Ph.D. in 1997.

Currently, I am teaching at Iowa State University. Many of you may not know where the state of Iowa is. It is in the middle of the U.S. A highly agricultural state. My teaching and research are primarily in U.S. state and local governments, public budgeting and financial management, and information technology management.

Virginia is my wife. She just graduated from law school and will practise law in Iowa when I am still in Iowa.
